While painting this original birch tree and water scene I endlessly stepped back from the canvas, giving myself a different perspective of the painting.
 
Looking at the textures of the oil paints, I see the promise of freedom. It makes me want to plunge right in the water, cold and sharp against my sun-soaked skin, stealing my breath, yet invigorating.
 
Go ahead lose yourself in the moment, step back, and appreciate what comes next.
