Are you brave? Brave enough to trust yourself? Believe in yourself?

Original birch tree landscape in soft coral and blues symbolizes bravery to me.

He's wrestled with llamas and lived off the grid doing rainwater harvesting in Northern California. My youngest son, Adam, that is. I believe he.knows bravery.

But there are different kinds of being brave. There's the subtle kind. Like my oldest son, Brain, who is the father of three young kiddos, and juggles a civil engineering job.

When the washing machine eats his daughter’s $100 ballet leotard and floods the basement, he’s patient ... to me that’s brave, too.

Sometimes being brave is telling the truth when all you want to do is change the subject. Or staying when you’d rather leave. Or acting instead of procrastinating.

That was me in the studio, hesitating rather than diving in. Instead I fiddled with brushes, procrastinating. I had been challenged NOT to use my beloved palette knife and I was struggling.

I huffed out of a sigh, if my sons could be brave so could I. Forcing myself to be brave, I pressed on believing I could do this.

We can learn to be brave.

This painting is the result of me trusting myself, believing in myself, and being brave.
